Natural disasters can occur anytime, anywhere. Mother Nature isn't known for her sympathy. From earthquakes to raging forest fires, land slides to devastating hurricanes, anyone can be directly affected by her fury.
Take a look back at Hurricane Katrina, which struck the Gulf Coast in late August 2005. The most recently reported death toll from that storm alone was a staggering 4,081, spanning 8 states. And there were still several other named Hurricanes that year. Not long after the storm hit New Orleans, even more problems arose. As if the storm itself wasn't bad enough, the survivors who remained in the city began erupting in violence. Looting of the still-standing stores was uncontrollable. Reports of theft, rapes and murders were in every newspaper across the country for weeks long after the hurricane had left the city.
The remaining residents of New Orleans then turned on the very people who traveled there to help them rebuild - rescue workers and construction workers. That's when the companies traveling to the Hurricane-ravaged city hired extra security to protect their workers. Not just normal security guards, but people with extensive backgrounds in
military and law enforcement.
We traveled to New Orleans that year to help guarantee the safety of the people and buildings they were protecting. Through all of the hardships, less than desirable conditions, and an innate amount of violence, one thing was certain: those people working to rebuild a destroyed city would make it back to their families once the job was done.
